Wind Turbine Industries has been manufacturing the Jacobs 31-20 for close to 30 years. It has been proven to be a stand-out in the small wind industry and many companies compare their turbine to this machine. The turbine is sold as a 20 kW machine but everything about it is oversized so it is not surprising to see greater than 20 kW being produced on a windy day.
The Jacobs 31-20 is unique among turbines in that it starts furling at a 27 miles per hour wind speed but never shuts down. There have been cases that a Jacobs 31-20 has run in 120 mph wind and never missed a beat.
